Hey there! I'm a Bristol Piano Teacher and Music Tutor. I’ve been teaching music and performing arts for around 10 years now, and I love what I do. I’ve taught, written and worked for a number of Bristol’s leading Orchestras and Music Schools, including The Bristol Ensemble, Bristol Cathedral School & The Bristol Metropolitan Orchestra.
I started music lessons when I was 8 – but got serious when I was about 16. At that time I went and studied theory, conducting & orchestration with William Goodchild. Since then, I’ve studied with Peter Ash (LSSO), & Jonathon James (RPO, Boston Phil). I also studied conducting at Canford/Sherborne with George Hurst.
Music theory can be about the most BORING thing on the planet. Most often it’s because it’s not given a context & students don’t know why they are learning what they are learning. The second you learn how to apply small elements of theory to creating or un-packing the music that you love – that’s when things start to unfold and you really start studying music.
Whether you are studying for the ABRSM grades, or just a great music lover – I hope that I can help you improve your understanding of what makes music tick.
